My Perinatal Philosophies
-
Birth is sacred work, a portal — a threshold between worlds. It is the moment a soul crosses from the unseen into the seen, guided by ancestors who have been holding them long before they arrived earthside.
Birth is not just the beginning of a baby's life.
It is also the rebirth of the birthing person.Birth shift’s identity, rewires the brain, expands the heart, and reveals parts of the self that were waiting to be known. It is a rite of passage — a spiritual initiation into a new timeline, a new way of being, a new version of self.
This moment deserves tenderness, compassion, empathy, and trauma‑informed care.
It deserves presence.
It deserves reverence. My role as a doula is to hold you through this sacred threshold with safety, autonomy, empathy, and deep attunement.
And it is an honor to walk with you through it. -
A spiritually attuned, emotionally grounded, trauma‑informed way of supporting birth.
My approach is rooted in presence, intuition, advocacy, and a deep respect for your autonomy. I don’t come in with expectations or ideals — I come in to understand what helps YOU feel safe, aligned, and connected.
I offer education, insight, and options so you can make grounded, empowered decisions.
I hold space so you can feel safe, seen, spiritually supported, and deeply cared for. This is the foundation of how I hold you through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
-
Autonomy
Your body, your intuition, and your choices lead the way. I support you in making informed decisions that feel aligned with your truth and the safety of both you and baby, while honoring your agency in every moment.
Emotional Safety
Birth asks a lot of the heart. I create a space where every emotion is welcome — joy, grief, courage, fear, clarity, uncertainty, expansion — and where you never have to perform or hold anything alone.
Attunement
I listen deeply to what is spoken and unspoken. I pay attention to the subtle shifts in your body, your breath, your energy, and your emotional landscape, responding with care and presence.
Trauma‑Informed Care
Your story, your history, and your boundaries matter. I move slowly, offer choice at every step, and prioritize consent, nervous system safety, and emotional steadiness.
Sacred
Birth is sacred. I honor the spiritual, ancestral, and energetic layers of this transition with tenderness and respect, holding space for magic.
Collaboration
You are the expert of your experience. I walk beside you — not in front of you, not behind you — offering support, information, and grounding while trusting your inner wisdom.
Inclusivity
Every birthing person and every family dynamic is welcome here.
Presence
I show up fully — grounded, calm, intuitive, and steady. My presence is not about doing more; it’s about being with you in a way that helps you feel held, supported, and never alone.
-
My care is relational, intuitive, and sacred.
I support the emotional, spiritual, and energetic layers of birth just as intentionally as the physical ones.
My approach is trauma‑informed, consent‑centered, and led by your autonomy.
-
I honor your intuition
You know your body and your experience better than anyone. My role is to help you stay connected to your inner knowing, especially when things feel intense or overwhelming.
I create space for your whole self
Your emotions, identity, history, spirituality, fears, and hopes all belong here. You never have to perform or hold anything alone.
I collaborate with your support system
If you have a partner or support people, I help them feel confident and involved. If you’re birthing solo, I become a steady, attuned presence by your side.
I stay grounded so you can stay connected
My presence is calm, steady, and intuitive. I anchor the room so you can stay with yourself, your body, and your process.
I move at your pace
Whether we’re preparing for birth, navigating labor, or settling into postpartum, I follow your rhythm. I don’t rush your process or push you toward anything that doesn’t feel right. Your comfort and emotional safety guide every step.
-
I support all birthing people and all family constellations.
Every identity, everybody, every lived experience is welcome here.
I work with first‑time and experienced parents, people seeking emotionally safe care, people navigating fear or trauma, and people wanting spiritual, intuitive, or purely practical support.
If you are preparing to give birth, you're in the right place!

I’m Monica — a trauma‑informed doula and intuitive support practitioner based in Philadelphia. My path to birthwork started long before I ever stepped into a birth space. When I was little, I wanted to be a midwife. It was the first dream I ever had for myself. Somewhere along the way, I let go of that dream and moved toward becoming a therapist instead.
Years later, after returning from a trip, I was sitting in my room when the thought came out of nowhere: I want to be a midwife. It felt random at first, but it also felt true. When I started researching what that path would require, I learned about the maternal health disparities facing people of color — especially Black birthing people. The statistics were alarming, and they pushed me to take action. I knew I wanted to be part of the solution, even if I wasn’t sure how yet.
As I kept researching, I discovered the role of a doula. It felt like the right place to begin — a way to support my community now, while working toward midwifery in the future. Doulas have been shown to increase safety and reduce mortality rates in birth spaces, and I knew I wanted to contribute to that impact. I also wanted to see if I still loved birth the way I did as a child.
The answer was yes. I do.
Today, my work blends trauma‑informed care, intuitive practice, and deep emotional attunement. I support all birthing people and all family dynamics, offering grounded, steady care that centers your autonomy, your voice, and your lived experience. And in a few years, I plan to continue this path by attending midwifery school — returning to the dream that first found me when I was a little girl.
Thank you for considering me to walk with you through this sacred season. You deserve care that feels safe, grounded, and culturally aligned — and I’m honored to support you.
